Ellis, Adele (Ada) (1866–1904)

from Jewish Herald (Vic)

This entry is from Obituaries Australia

Wc greatly regret to have to record the death of Miss Adele [Ada] Ellis, B.A., eldest daughter of Mr. Angell Ellis, of St. Kilda, which took place on 23rd November, after a sickness of eight months' duration. Miss Ellis had a distinguished career at the Melbourne University, and gave evidence of the possession of considerable literary faculty. Her knowledge of English literature in particular was wide and accurate, and she edited with much skill and success a number of University text-books on that subject. She also wrote a variety of essays and sketches for the public journals, especially for the "Australasian" and the "Argus." Some years ago the deceased young lady was a familiar figure at the Jewish Literary Society, in the proceedings of which she took considerable interest, and where her clever papers and speeches were much appreciated. Her bereaved parents and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the whole Jewish community.
