Mary Bellett was born on Norfolk Island on 30 April 1796, the daughter of Jacob Bellett and his wife Ann née Harper. Mary left Norfolk Island with her family for Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the City of Edinburgh in 1808. She married James Garth on 22 September 1815 at St David's Hobart. She died on 23 January 1877 at Cygnet. She had been living with her son James at the time. Her cause of death was given as 'old-age'.
